Longshoremen
Locked Out
at Oakland Ports
Dock workers at the port in Oakland, California,
members of the ILWU (International Longshore and Warehouse Union),
were locked out by the Pacific Maritime Association.
All 29 ports along the entire West Coast were closed by the lockout,
at an estimated cost of $1 billion per day.
10,500 longshoremen are affected by the lockout.
The ports on the West Coast receive about half of the country's imports.
